Develop and use information literacy skills: Report
I have always been interested in yachts and Cray boats, and boat restoration. So its no surprise that I choose crayboat restoration, given the fact that I am currently restoring a 8m cray boat hull. Which will be basically maintenance free because it will be a composite(fibreglass) boat which is the end result that I require. In the process of restoring the craft I decided to use a epoxy resin based fibreglass by choosing this site I choose their product
http://www.yachtpaint.com/datasheet/display.aspx?ProductID=3545&isoLanguageID=eng
I wanted to create a boat that is able to be sailed by only 1 person, which can be maintained by a single person as well. This was the criteria for my selection of sources and my searching patterns.
The retreival strategies that I used are listed below and were a mix of pint and non-print resources: Telephone Book , Mercury newspaper , Australian Amateur Boatbuilders, Local knowledge ,Google,Yahoo Bing, library Catalogues.
The agencies that I used the most were: Liechhardt library ,State Library Tasmania ,Linc Glenorhcy,Mercury newspaper, newsagencys.
I priotised the information to suit the construcution of external and internal repair of the hull using fibreglass.
At one stage I thought I would change the shape of the boat and lengthen it was to costly and to hard achieve a good result after seeking advice from shipwrights I reassessed my plans and stay with what I already had. I did not need to redo any searches.
Because I did this as a hobbie I didn't think much about the different ways to search and the amount resources out there, but as I have learnt through this course there are blogs that I can get first hand information, other databases that I can access, other libraries and ways to create web searches to get information from.
Rss Feed
I found an RSS feed and a Gagdet to enter the RSS feed into. I saved the gadget and now when you view my blog you view the RSS feed on the top right hand side.
